An investor can buy a bond for $35,000 that will pay $40,000 in a year.?

1 .What is the rate of return on this bond?

2. If the interest rate is 9% per annum compounded annually, what is the present value of the bond?

3. What is the net present value of the bond?

4. Should the investor buy the bond?

5. If the market interest rate rises to 12% p.a., should the investor buy the bond?

Buy that sucker. The Fed has been lowering interest rates, you would be lucky to get 5% return on a fixed income investment. Heck, I got 300K if you had some decent rated bond, BBB or better, paying that rate, let me know I will buy it.
But to answer your finance 101 non-practical to the world questions.
1) approx 14.28571%;
2) I think $36,849.998;
3 Heck Yes;
4) Heck Yes.
