Cousin buying a house can i rent if off him? |
my cousin is buying a house but he works away, i am living on a council estate, so he said i could rent it privatley from him and get housing benefit to pay my rent etc. can we do that? that way i have a nice house and he has a long term investment. Yeah my sis does with her boyfriend it's fine but as I recall she only got such a sweet deal as she had, had a baby. And yes your rent will pay for the house! So do it A.S.A.P yes it is perfectly legal to do that, at the end of the day he will be a landlord. you will need to sign a tenancy agreement to show the housing benefit people. yes but he will have to let tax office know as its taxable income Sure you can. Not a great idea if family /friends are involved. Just imagine the bad feelings if anything went wrong eg rent not paid, damage to property etc. You should find somewhere else. Less grief in the long run. As council properties are like rocking horse poo then I wouldn't say it's a bright idea yes thats fine, you need to sort it out with the housing office and they will send him the rent cheques yes. if you are not dealing with personal income tax problem. Yes you can rent from him but it could put a strain on the family ties as tenant &landlord dont always get on .good luck |
