How much would it cost me to manage a car?

I'm 18 years old and a freshman in college. I live at home and I don't work

I will have $2,500 in the bank by the summertime because I get financial aid checks from my school which I deposit straight to the bank. My classes are already paid off. All this money is going to a car.

My goal is to purchase a car by June 1st.
I want to spend about $1,000-$1,5000 on a used car that works. Pretty much anything that could get me from Point A to Point B and looks decent.

I live in Chicago and I will have to get
a city sticker [around $60 I think]
insurance [could anyone estimate what I might pay for 1 year? I have had my license for over 2.5 years and I clean record.]
gas money [Most of my friends live near me and I don't expect to spend alot on gas]
repair fund [just in case something goes wrong I want to have extra cash.]
do I need anything else? I don't want a big sound system or rims or anything.

I'm not a big spender. All the bank money goes towards the car, I have a couple hundreds for other stuff so I won't be taking money out of my car fund for clothes, food, etc. I get my next check for about $1,500 around November of 2008. Do you think I would be able to manage my car until November of this year without going broke?

i would suggesst you to save some more money for next year and buy a decent car with it..

the amount of money you are planning to buy a car from..is a bit tooo less..yeah obviously you can get a car..but its not worth spending money..cuz those used cars will give you problems every once in a while... and the maintenance will be high compared to some nice decent cars...

thats the best thing i can tell u... otherwise you are free to buy it..
