MBA program....the key to fortune?

I was reading the New York Times this morning and they had a article about folks leaving there profession for wall street. Is that possible for people in the real world that go to real world schools or is that only for the extreme elite in the ivy league MBA programs? I'm tired of being poor. You do not get any respect when your poor and these folks that got there MBA's and headed to wall street as investment bankers and specialized consultants have money coming out of there ***. Does MBA + Wallstreet equal the good life?

I won't say that it is the key to fortune. The key to fortune lies in that person himself and what field he'll be at. Some industries or field, would require creativity to be successful, some on luck, some through hardwork, some through brains, some through experience, etc... Bill Gates, is a school drop out. He's being kicked out of school, and definitely don't have an MBA, and he's the richest man in the world. Many rich people in the world, do not have MBA. Of course, some profession would require MBA for employment, but may not give you higher pay too.

When there is a will, there is a way. Remember, the type of seeds you plant will always produce the same type of fruits (what you reap is what you sow). To get the fruits, of course you need to plant the seeds (choose the type of seeds), provide good soil (foundation), water and fertilise it (continual upgrading of knowledge, self enrichments), with patience, and you will get very good harvest. :)

I don't have MBA, but am definitely doing much better than my friends who have MBA. I guess you would need to plan your own career path, and what you really want to achieve, what you are good at, what you like doing (because you will usually excel in things you enjoy doing), what's your strength and in which field. If you wish to earn a better income, it's better that you have many years of experience in the same field, and climb up the corporate ladder slowly but with good and strong foundation, while continue to upgrade your knowledge and skill through on job experience and books. Apply those knowledge on your job so that you are better than the others in the company, and definitely the boss will notice you, or even competitors, or the person you deal with such as clients or suppliers, or whoever, which is a good way to get promoted for higher position which is of course, equal to higher pay.

There are many good books nowadays for specific topics and knowledge, and provides with real life examples and applications, and I personally think that it's better than learning through MBA, which is mostly theory on basic principles and just some very good and bombastic terms.

It might but you should also consider the amount of time it takes to get your MBA which is 4+ years and the tuition costs for school even with financial aid roughly 23,000+ a year for four years. So if your into that job then you should go for it but if not why waste your time and do something you like

um i dunno if its the answer. prob hard work is. But it only takes TWO years. and if you are accepted for it, you can sign up for options to assist professors while earning your degree and they will PAY for your tuition. So you can contact the school and ask them about teachers assistant positions and they will let you know what openings they have and what the qualifications are. Also, there are part time programs (they take longer) you can pursue at night while still holding your current job.
But only go into something if you know you like it. Look into the business world and see if thats something you really want.
If its not, you can look at any other vocation in an entreprenural light and become successful doing what you love. E.g. if you are a painter, start a painting school. be creative, hard working, and ask for a raise.
ALSO another GREAT option for a FREE MBA is working with a company who will agree to pay for your MBA. If they see you as a valuable employee and think that an MBA will make you a better one, they may pay for it while you work for them. You will just have to work for them a certain number of years once you complete your degree.
