Extra money for my kids, that they are able to touch when they are 18?

I am curious to see what are some of the highest return investment tools for children as far as college or something for them when they are of age, i ahve a 9 yr old,5yr. old,and a 5 month old , i already have a retirement acct. set up for me though

I use a program through State Farm that is set up for this purpose exactly.

It's good to start with the minimum of $1000 but of course the more you invest the more likely you are to see a large return. You are taking a risk of losing some money because it's a mutual fund investment program. In two years I've not lost anything and I've seen a return of almost 100 % on my money. That's nearly doubling it.

Another thing you could do it put it into a high interest money market account. You are penalized for withdrawals that exceed a certain amount or occasions but you don't risk losing anything.

I also bought some savings bonds and CDs that don't mature for several years because even I can't touch those or cash them in as they are in my daughters name.

Another investment you could make that wouldn't cost you anything is spending time with them making sure they are studying and learning their material. A scholarship doesn't cost you anything!
