Whats a quick investment?

I have 7000+ dollars saved up, but I would like to make more. Do any of you have any tips on how to make a quick buck. I know you have to have money to get money.... so I did the hard part.... :P

A "quick buck" is never easy to come by. Anytime there is quick money to be made, there is generally a huge risk involved which could involve a very quick loss as well.

Generally, mutual funds could be an easier way to go. If you do your research, read a few good books on mutual funds, you may be able to find one that performs very well. Mutual funds also carry some additional risk, depending on the type you invest in. They have lower risk mutual funds to higher risk ones. Obviously the higher the risk, the higher your chance of losses but you also have a higher chance for gains as well. You should be able to review the past performance of various mutual funds to see how they have done, but past performance is not indication of future performance!

CDs are available and basically have no risk. Due to this, you only get a very little return from them.

Bury it...then wait a few years to see what grows out of that spot.

Las Vegas - but then again you can lose it all too.

The level of return is always tied to the level of risk. You can get a semi-decent interest rate on a Certificate of Deposit (CD) and only tie up your money for 6 months. Anything else, such as buying stock, puts the principle at risk.

That's great. What is your timeline? Do you have less than a year? Do you have more than ten years? Do you have somewhere in between? If you have a longer time horizon (at least 5 years) then I would suggest a balanced fund (mutual fund) because that will give you some exposure to the market with little risk. You should earn a return higher than if you just invested money into a money market fund. If you have a short time horizon (less than 5 years) then I would put your money in a money market fund because you have little to no risk of losing principal and you'll earn a better return than you would in a savings or cd account.
