If you have remorgaged your house, how have you made your money grow and with what type of investments?

The first re-mortgage for me was to buy another property to let, but a note of caution - be sure you can make the repayments during a period when you may not have a tenant. The second time was to improve my own property, which, like the other one I bought, increased in value at least equal to the inflation rates.

Yes - I have remortgaged my house to the hilt - and now keep all the money under my mattress - just in case.

The only way you could do that is to get an interest rate in excess of the rate you pay for your mortgage IE you have an interest rate on your mortgage of 5.5% and your investments were growing at say 10%.giving you a net return of 4.5%. If interest rates were to rise and investment rated were to fall you would be in the same position as the financial naive putting their money under mattresses and let not only the bed bugs at it , but the inflation monster as well No expert would promise a 10% return as its up there with the 2:30 at Ascot in the risk stakes

A nice, diversified portfolio of good mutual funds.

If I had to pick just one type of mutual fund for your situation, I'd go with a good balanced mutual fund. They typically have nice, consistent rates of returns without a whole lot of fluctuation.

I would not remortgage my house in order to invest except I know the investment is 100% secure and will certainly yield a higher return than what interest I pay on the loan.

I only invest money I can afford to lose. Imagine losing my house because the investment goes sour - not worth thinking about !!
