I need help getting money for repairs?

My mother has a house that was passed down to her from her mother. She wants to give it to me but she wants it to stay in her name till I get the needed repairs done.

My question, is there anyway that I can get a loan or some kind of help to get the needed repairs even if It's not in my name?

I have a full time job, no major bills (credit cards, etc.) except for a school bill which I am paying on currently. I thinking about making it into an investment in order to get the money back that I will put in it if I can.

you sound like a good candidate for a loan. since you do not own the home it would not be a loan based on the home being collateral. you can probably qualify for a loan with no collateral and based on your own ability to repay it. just be sure to shop around for the best interest rate and then work with the two lowest companies, bargain with them. you can say "well Citibank is offering an 10% rate of interest (for example), can you beat that?" they may ask you to bring in something showing that before they agree to do it but a lot of time they will try to be competitive.

if you don't qualify for as much money as you want or need you may need to make the repairs a little at a time. repay the first loan and apply for another, and so on. it may take a little bit of time but you should be able to do this.
