Investment adjusts for inflation so if inflation increases do you get more money or less? |
Investment adjusts for inflation so if inflation increases do you get more money or less? Depends on your investments. Stocks or bonds? Fixed or variable rates/returns? Example, if you're investing in a fixed rate @ 3% and rates go up to 5%...you'll make less because your fixed rate is 3%. If rates go down to 2%, you'll make more. more more money that is worth less. The only two that I am aware of that adjust for inflation are I bonds and TIPs. As one responder mentioned you get more money and it is worth less. But it is even worse than that. You have to pay taxes on the worthless money which makes it even more worthless. TIPs are evern more worthless than that. You have to pay taxes on the money you dont get. How about that? With TIPs, the inflation adjustment is not paid until the bonds come due, but the taxes on the inflation adjustment are due annually. Isn't the government wonderful? The same. |
