Should I call the POLICE?

I just received a phone call from a bank where I just opened an account. A woman said my checking account didn't have enough money to cover a 2,000.00 check that was written. I don't have any checks for this account. I asked what the date was, and she said it wasn't showing. All that was showing was the amount. Then she asked if I would like to have the bank transfer funds from my money market account. I again asked for a date on check. She puts me on hold. A man picks up. I ask him if this is the same man I spoke with at bank when I opened account. He said he was no longer there, moved to another branch. I hung up on him. Waited about 5 minutes, and called the number back that was the number on my cell from which was supposed to be my bank. I got a recording to leave a message, and would return my call by the end of the day. What should I do?

OH MY GOD. THE CALLER KNEW MY NAME. FIRST THING SHE ASKED WHEN I ANSWERED THE PHONE. SHE SAID IS THIS ------ ---------? and I said yes it is. DAMM.... Is that serious?

It's a scam to get your account numbers. Call your band and alert them immediately to watch your account. Freeze it temporarily.

Call police, give them all the evidence you have. Call your bank to verify the call you just got. Sounds like a scam.

Sounds like it could be a scam...DO NOT give out any personal information to someone that calls you, and do not trust the phone # on your cell phone unless you researched it yourself. Go talk to your bank in person and you'll probably find that you're account is just fine and someone was trying to scam you over the phone. Just be sure that if you gave ANY personal info over the phone that you tell your bank and close the account immediately before you become liable for any damages or missing funds.

yes go to the police then the bank and get an explaination

This sounds like a scam. Stop by the branch where you took out the account. Ask to talk to the branch manager.
Explain what you wrote above.
Make sure you write down the time, date and number the call came from.
The bank can tell you if the call was legit. If not call the cops.

I would definitely call the bank and let them know somebody is using their info to contact you .

I would call your bank just to make sure that no one was trying to reach you. They may call the police, but honestly, I doubt the police will be able to do anything. On the other hand, they may be able to research the phone number. Tough call, but I would definitely call the bank and let them know.

Yes you should call the police for something like that. That is what they are there for.

I would go down there and request to see the check.

Although, Seeing how you dont have any checks for the account you could probably call the police too.

Just be polite throughout the whole thing. Even if they bank is completly wrong and wont admit it.

If you havent given out any informtion yet, dont. Call the real bank and talk with them......dont call the number that called you. May be a scam

Total scam! You were smart to not give any info and hang up. These scumbags were trying to rip you off. Call the cops. Give the phone number etc and ask them what your next step should be. You should also call your bank and explain what happened and double check that your account hasn't been accessed etc.

You should GO to the bank immediately. It is probably fraud and the call was most likely not from them, but from someone who may have found a piece of your mail in the trash or something. Give them no info over the phone. Go in person to the bank and see if they called. If they didn't, then tell them about the call, and ask to have your account numbers changed. Also, call the police.

Call your bank and tell them what is going on! And call the police and give them the number that you called on your cell phone!
You have to do something and I wouldn't wait another minute! Call the police right now!!!!!

If I were you, I would go up to the bank and discuss what happened with them and see what they have to say. This way they are aware of the scam and if someone tries to get access to your account they can notify you ASAP. If someone does have access to your account I would recommend closing the account and opening a new one, just to be on the safe side. I hope this has helped.

Yeah, they probably selected a random number and saw your name attached, along with address. They were trying to get some information, preferably banj info, from you to ultimately drain your account. I wouldn't call the cops, just because they might not do anything since you never suffered any real damages. You'd basically waste your time. But kudos to you for not being naive and not giving up important info about yourself. If this happens again, maybe you could try some reverse psychology with them... Good Luck!

Never, EVER give financial information to someone who calls you. if they do, ask for their name and extension and say you'll call them right back and be routed to their number via the bank.

call the police. they are trying to rip you off.that wasnt your bank!
