I need some major help. i'm planning on my future & i want to be able to save some money for retirement.?

i'm 27 yrs old. i live in the virginia area. i have no kids. i 'm nt married. i'm working 2 jobs so that i can have survive. i plan on going to school in the fall of 2008. what i want to do is drop one of the jobs & probably try to get a 2nd job working from home on the internet. can that be done? i know in the past my budgeting skills weren't always the best but i'm getting my life together & i want to be successful & be happy. does anyone suggest getting an CD'S OR MONEY MARKET accts? how about mutual funds? i just need some advice. i don't want to be working for the rest of my life.

A 401K is a great place to start. The money comes out of your check before you even see it and it builds over time. The important thing is to do something NOW and KEEP DOING IT every week. Even if it is just putting $5 in a savings account. Eventually that will become $1000 and you can move it to a CD or Mutual Fund where it will earn a better rate of return for you.
What you really need to do is make a commitment to your own future. Can you do that? If you can, then prove it to yourself and get started with some type of savings plan. If not now.......... WHEN?
Good Luck

Well you have taken the first step.
If one of your jobs offers a 401K, take that and put as much in it as you can. If neither does then you should consider opening a IRA probably with a company like Fidelity or Vanguard. www.vanguard.com.
