Need Advice of 401K Funds Re-allocation? |
Can somebody advise me at this moment whether I have to change my 401K to some Treasury Bond Fund or Money Market Fund for safty until the market is clear, since my balance already down 10% more and I'll retire in 2011. Now most funds I had was stock funds and the financial market seems to need quite a while to recover. TKS. If you reallocate into a bond or money market fund, you will preserve your principal, but you will also ensure your prior losses. If you are retiring in 2011, that may not be enough time for the market to recover from its current doldrums (looks like things will get worse before they get better). You don't have to make any moves, but since you are retiring soon, it would be wise to transfer some of your portfolio to safer investments, like bonds and money markets. However, I would not sell everything now. The market already is off huge. A lot of the damage is done already. Nobody knows how bad things will get, but typically election years are great years. I am expecting a market rally mid year. Also, at what point do you know the market is "clear". It might be at the bottom now. |
