How long should a good stock or mutual fund trade above it's 200 day moving average?

How long should a good stock or mutual fund trade above it's 200 day moving average?

How long for what? Good stocks can trade above the 200 day for years. What is of concern is when they cross over the 200 day average on the way down. That can be a signal of very bad things ahead. When they cross over on the way up, that can be a signal of a trend reversal. Normally, one should not jump right in at the crossover because one might get whip sawed, meaning that it might be a false signal. Some technicians suggest buying when the 50 day crosses the 200 day. That is considered a confirmation of a change in the long term trend.
