Can any one give me information about mutual fund options in detail?

Hi Sameer,

The following is a good tutorial from Investopedia.com about mutual funds:

http://www.investopedia.com/university/m...

If you want a good list of all of the investment categories, you can go to the Funds tab on Morningstar.com and then click on the category returns on the right side of the page. You will see a list of all of the categories that they cover. If you click on a category, you will see the individual fund returns.

There are many good mutual fund companies. I am most familiar with no load mutual funds based in the United States so I can provide you with a few no load mutual fund companies such as Vanguard, T. Rowe Price, Fidelity, Dodge & Cox, Royce and Metropolitan West. No one mutual fund company is the best at all investment strategies. T. Rowe Price is very good at domestic equity strategies while Royce specializes in smaller cap value investments. For fixed-income, Vanguard, Metropolitan West, Fidelity and T. Rowe Price are all very good.

Some of the factors that I look when evaluating mutual funds are historical mutual fund performance, expenses, consistency and especially the quality of management. I am very selective when it comes to mutual fund manager and analyst backgrounds and experience. You do not necessarily have to pay any more for a highly qualified mutual fund manager, so why not select mutual fund managers with the best credentials.

I hope this helps.

Look up Trowe Price. They have a bunch of options in mutual funds and other investments. You can go as $50 a month automatically withdrawn from a checking account or whatever. They don't collect commision, you can withdraw from your account. I have few mutual funds with them. I like those better than savings account with a bank. But you can talk with them and see if you like what they have. It's really simple. 1-800-225-5132 or troweprice.com

mutual fund can be closed ended or open ended type.
in closed ended type u cannot redeem ur moey upto the lock in period or u have to pay the penalty for the early redeem.

in open ended u can get in and redeem when ever u want.

the options are

growth option.- where the investment grows upto u redeem the amount.

divident options-- where the company give the dividend at each pt of time .

dividend reinvestment-- the company gives the dividend and automatically allots units for the dividend amt and retains with them.
