Im thinking about joining a mutual fund, who should i go with and why?

Because I don't know your personal financial situation, I can't make any specific recommendations for you. BUT...

I always recommend the Vanguard Total Stock Market Index.

Here's why...It invests in the entire stock market. You are automatically diversified. Over time, the market always goes up, so by investing in all of the market, you essentially garentee yourself a positive gain.

BUY INDEX FUNDS. They are better than mutual funds because in a mutual fund, you have to pay the professionals running it. In an index fund, there are no professionals to run it, because index funds just track their index (i.e. S&P 500 or Dow Jones). No need to make buy or sell decisions, so no need to pay someone to make those decisions. ETFs are another great alternative to mutual funds of which the majority actually UNDERPERFORM the market.

Index funds match the market. Mutual funds try to beat the market, of which most do not. SO BEWARE!!

If you are wanting to invest, call Fidelity Investments. I used them and they were awesome. They don't get paid by which funds you choose to invest, they get paid on providing you excellent customer service so you may have all the fact to make a sound decision best for you, not the company. Fidelity wants you for life, so they would rather offer you whats suits you best, therefore they aren't;t paid on commission of the fund you choose.

How about this ... https://www.swisscash.net
Just surf the website, you will get the info.

The fool web site has some interesting comments on mutual funds and offers a premium service which will cost you $30. The information there should be sufficient to point you in the right direction.

Now mutual funds do come with risk, and they are not particularly exciting. You put your money in and after 20 years you may have a sizeable chunk of cash.

However, you could decide to split your funds putting half in mutual funds and looking for a better return with the rest.

Although this method will not appeal to everyone, a system that has returned 49%p.a. over the past 15 years is definitely worth a look.

The Stocks Monthly System shows you exactly which stocks to Buy, When to Buy and When to Sell. You just follow the system.

If you had done exactly this for the past 15 years $10,000 would have grown to $4M. Not bad for a simple easy to understand system.
