It allows small investors to own a diversified portfolio of securities with a relatively small investment. A mutual fund is an organization that receives member's money for the purpose of investing in the stock and bond markets. By collecting money from many individuals, the fund can buy a diversified portfolio of securities. Any one member may be able to buy only one or two stocks with his money, which means he has to assume a high degree of risk. When you invest in a mutual fund, you are buying shares (or portions) of the mutual fund and become a shareholder of the fund. Mutual fund is a trust which collects money from the investors and invests in different securities like shares , bonds and debentures and return through these investment is returned back to the investors as per their unit holdings. |
