How to look at a mutual fund?

How are some ways to look at mutual funds to determine whether they will grow or not?

You might want to look at what Investopedia has to offer regarding mutual fund analysis. Typically you look for a fund manager with a long track record of success at beating the index he or she is compared to as your number one priority. As far as researching individual funds is concerned, Morningstar is the leading mutual fund research firm, however you can find information on Yahoo! Finance and similar websites. I have included the links to the above sites. I hope this helps.

Best of luck!

Look at how they have performed against the index they track.

Has the fund manager had a good track record against his index over the last 1 - 3 - 5 year time period.
Otherwise buy low cost index funds.

Every time you want to invest in a mutual fund, they send or email you a prospectus before you are allowed to invest. In the meantime, take a look at Vanguard or Morningstar. They rate various mutual funds generally on a variety of factors (such as expenses, returns, risk, etc.). This will give you a basic view of the funds and allow you to compare them.

I agree with the above answerer who suggests looking at Yahoo Finance and Bankrate.com. You might also take a look at MSNBC.com at their business/stock section. They have links and advice to assist you.
