What mutual fund to sell?

I have 8 various mutual funds and need to withdraw 20k to buy a car. There are no fees involved in any of them to sell as I've had them over the minimum amount of time. They all have various rates of return and varying amounts of money in them. How to I choose which one to withdraw the money from? Look at the YTD return? Take out money from the one that is performing the best or worst? Take 5K out of 4 of them?

Hi, here is a collection of informative articles about investing. a free online investing tutorial for you.

good luck !

wish you make fortune from investing !

If you need to withdraw money for personal reasons, always take first out of the fund that is performing the worst. Keep your winners and sell your dogs.

Several factors need to be considered. Can't take them in any order but looked at as a whole:

1. Take a look at the minimum investment requirements for all 8 of your funds. Check to make sure that if you withdraw from those funds, you don't go under those minimum thresholds. If you do, they will charge you low-balance fees.

2. I'd also consider selling funds that are under-performing vs. the S&P 500.

3. I would sell funds that pay the lowest dividends per share. For example, if I have two funds. One that grows faster but pays low dividends. Another one grows slower but pays out a lot in dividends. I'd sell the first one. However, that's my opinion.

4. Are any of the funds at the top of their cycle? I'd sell those as well.

Hope that helps.

There is no exact answer, but make sure you stay well diversified. Also if they are all performing well, but any have a new manager you may want to sell that one since no telling how the new manager will do.

Beyond that you may want to just sell whichever one is doing the worst when compared to its peers. I'd look at about a 3 year return to decide which is worst, ytd probably isn't long enough.

Buy the car on credit from the dealer when they offer low financing rates, then pay the car off in 5 years and you will still have a good car and your mutual funds.

If life goes sour for you along the way, then figure out which mutual funds to sell to bail you out of car payments.

My way gives you options, options are everything in life.
