Cashing Out a Mutual Fund?

I've had a mutual fund for about 10 years and it has really been a dog... decreasing by almost 70% over the time I've owned it... If I were to cash it out, would I be able to claim capital losses on my taxes for 08? Or give me some insight on what to do with it...

You can claim capital losses in the year that you sell it. Your losses can be used to offset any gains from other investments. If you have excess losses, you can claim them up to a maximum of $3,000 with any losses in excess of $3,000 carried over to future years.
