Euro mutual fund crash? |
my euro mutual fund MDEFX crashed 5 points in just a few days and I can't figure out why that happened. Many mutual funds distribute capital gains in December. If your fund has realized gains for the year the fund will pay a "dividend" in the form of a share reinvestment. When your fund pays out its realized gains the share price is reduced by the amount of the distribution similar to when a stock pays a dividend. Check on your fund companies website to verify if this is the case, most sites list when distributions take place and amount. Chances are your fund is not is trouble, it can be a bit if a shock to see your fund down big in one day, if it is in the month of December it is usually just a capital gains distribution. |
