What must I do before I can legally operate an online business in New Jersey? |
I already have a website for my environmental activism group, and want to sell environmentally friendly products on that site in order to raise money for the website and our groups activities. My girlfriend and I will be forming a partnership, but will have no employees (besides ourselves obviously). Must I register as a business? What are the tax issues involved? Since we will have no brick and mortar store, and therefore no physicall selling location, is it legal/possible for me to register my business in a state (like Nevada or Wyoming) that doesn't have sales tax? Are there any other forms/legal issues I need to be aware of? Do I need an EIN, or a federal identification number? I have looked everywhere and there seems to be a lack of information and/or clarity of information regarding starting your own small e-commerce business. Any help would be greatly appreciated. haha new jersey! Im not From New Jersey but I live in North Carolina and I own my business online and all I needed was $35. Thats was after I tried it for free.
