What is the best way to start an online business?

I've been thinking about selling jewelry online, but honestly I don't know were to start?
Please help!!

Selling anything on line is a real challenge to get going. If you have tried selling on ebay, you already may have found out that it is a hit or miss proposition. So many people think it is easy to make money on line and all you have to do is "build it and they will come", but that is not true. I am not saying it can't be done, but it takes time to develop a presence on the internet. And you could do a lot of starving in the meantime.

However, first you need a domain name, which can usually be done through the ISP that will host your site. It can take anywhere from a few days to a week before you can actually get to the site. You need to design or have someone design your webpage(s), you'll need a shopping cart account and then get the word out.

Are you going to offer and guarantees, refund, return policy type things? You will need to sit down and write all that out also.

I am not an advocate of paying a lot to advertise via mass emails. So many ISPs have built in filters to block spam so the majority of your money spent may end up being filtered out as spam. Plus the fact that this is not going to drive targeted hits to your site, yes maybe a fair amount of traffic, but not targeted.

I don't know if you have approached your local market or not yet, but you may want to consider trying to sell locally at craft shows, art shows, those type things while you are building your web presence. You can create business cards with your web address to let prospective people know they can purchase at your site also.

You need a lot of money for advertising!! You can do it, go to GoDaddy.com and get a domain name for your business

there are lots on businesses on line what you need is exposure so when people are looking for what your selling they find you

Move to Nigeria, come up with some bogus story about being the son/daughter of an Ambassador and how you need money to get out of some fix or another, send out 100,000,000 spam emails, let the checks roll in!

lol i was once in your shoes. selling online seemed like an amazing idea until i started it :P personally i think ebay is terrible. it's the worst place cause you're selling alongside so many people. what i did was started my own online storefront. check out http://www.yourownonlinestorefront.com . they tell you everything and their program is amazing
