I have a small online business?

What kind of licenses are required. We are a service. We don't need any sort of license to actually perform the task of what we do. However, I was wondering if I need to fill out any special paperwork to obtain a license to operate. I am the only individual in the business.

You do not need to have a license to merely be online.

If your type of service does not require any sort of license to perform the task -- e.g. you are not in a regulated profession such as contractor -- then you do not need any license for running an online business.

The most you need is to register your business with your county clerk's office, file for a doing business as or assumed name (and follow the other requirements your state may have). But not really a business license

While it is true that online businesses are the "new kid on the block" to most governmental regulatory agencies, you should probably still talk to at least your local jurisdiction to see if an occupational license is required in your local city or county. Also, if you charge taxes online, you'll have to submit those payments to your state Department of Revenue, just like any other business would. The problem here is not to have a license to do your particular type of business. The issue is.....do you still need a license to be in business, period? My guess is unless you think you can hide it from the tax folks (not recommended, by the way), you do.....Good Luck
