Opening an online business but don't want merchandise to smell like smoke!?

I want to open a online clothing store that I will run out of my home. The thing is...the owner of the home I live in smokes. I don't want my merchandise to be shipped to my customers reeking like smoke! I can't tell him to quit smoking, I have tried that several times, and I can't afford to move out or get a storage unit for the merchandise. I was thinking about putting it in the basement but then it might smell musty. Any creative ideas of how I can keep my merchandise smelling fresh in a smoky home?

A few options. First, get a storage location elsewhere. Cuts into your profits, but might be worth it. And, maybe you know someone who will let you use some unused space in THEIR house in exchange for something. Might be cheaper than commercial storage space.

Second, if you're not making the clothes, see if your supplier can ship directly to your customers. Or, if you can order smaller batches.

Third, similarly, you could see if your supplier will ship you a customer order on a weekly basis. That way, you can get just the stuff you need to send out. Sure, your customers will need to wait an extra week (up to), but maybe that's OK.

Fourth, if you really do need to keep it in the house, I'd suggest storing in air-tight containers. Space Bags are just one possibility.

If the clothes aren't damaged by it, a spray of Febreeze before putting in the shipping box might help.

a storage room will cost you about 30 dollars a month. look into it because you want repeat business. If you sent me something that smelled like smoke I would never buy from you again. 30 bucks a month isn't bad and it's a business expense so you can write it off at the end of the year. Keep the merchandise out of smokey the bears house. And get out of the house yourself cuz that's not good for you either.
