Are people who have online businesses required to have a business license? |
As well as a business address that is a non-P.O. Box? In my experience the answer is no but it really depends on what you plan to be doing online. If an online businesses employs any one beside the owner (one person) and it depend on what product you are selling. For right now just starting out you can probably get away with out either. However every business needs to employ sound business practices early to prevent problems later on. It's like teaching a child good manners early so they don't end up a jerk later. That said, a business license is always a good idea, it legitimizes your business. A postal center like UPS store can help you obtain a mailing address separate from your home that is not a PO Box. Once again not absolutely mandatory at first, but it will become very necessary as your business grows. |
