I would like to advertise my business online with a webpage, I have a Bulldog rescue. What site do I use, price wise and gettting my page noticed. I want people to type in Bulldogs and have my page come up in the results. How do I do that?

Ok, you are speaking of two different things here.

One is web design and the other is search engine optimization. Although they do go hand in hand, it will take some time and patience to achieve a reasonable result with both.

For off, it depends how much money you have to invest into a website. You can do it on your own but no guarantees that it will look that great. A good site we can recommend to you for about $20 a month -- would be Homestead.com . There you can build your website and even register a domain name.

For Search Engine Optimization - you would most likely need to hire someone to do that for you. If you Google the keyword "bulldogs", you will see millions of pages show up and those who show up on the first page have most likely spent thousands of dollars to get there with their Search Engine Optimization efforts...so that keyword is FAR too competitive. It would most likely take a years worth of SEO work to achieve that. However, if you have a bulldog rescue in Tampa for example, you could target Bulldogs Tampa or Bulldog Rescue Tampa... a lot more easily. I would aim for more targeted keywords in your case.


This is what search engine optimization (SEO) is exactly and you will want to do this after you have built your site up.

You could start with social networking sites like myspace and facebook - they are both free.

My recommendation would be:

1. Register a domain name with GoDaddy.
2. While you're at it, you might as well buy hosting from GoDaddy for your new domain name. No, I have no affiliation with GoDaddy, but they are cheap and more reliable than a lot of other companies.
3. Use paid search, such as Google AdWords or Yahoo! Search Marketing, to start driving traffic to it.

This is a way, way over-simplification, obviously, but if you want to get a real web site up and start driving targeted traffic to it as quickly as possible, that's the way to do it.

Pay per click management is an art, so it will take some practice. Start with a small budget while you learn what you're doing. Once you get good at it and learn what keywords generate business, you will know the best keywords for which to optimize your site with SEO.

I agree with "Work Media" but I would take out paid search unless you know what you're doing & have a lot of money to experiment with. The quickest way to get on the front page of any search engine is to use video. I posted a short video to several video hosting sites for a specific key phrase (sort of like "bulldog rescue in Tampa") & in less than 12 hours had 2 listings on the first page of Google & one on the second page. And I didn't pay a dime & the links pointed straight to my site. Plus, video lets folks see the cute dogs you have!
