Is it legal to have a 14 year old running an online business?

Is it legal if a fourteen year old was running an online business selling products and receiving money? do the parents have to be guardians or something? How does this work?

There is no age limit for on-line business. The problem comes when you want to purchase something requires credit card. I suggest you get your parents/siblings involved and make it as a family business.

You must be 18 or older to sell on Ebay.. so I can only assume that you need to be this age requirement for an actual business.

Plus, the labor laws out there seem to dislike it...

As long as the money is traveling in cash/going through paypal towards the bank account of a non-minor, it's fine.

No. If you engaged into a contract with any other person, it is void. You will not be liable to that person you engaged with though. But if you clearly stated that you are of legal age when in fact you ar not, and he can give evidence of it, you will be liablke when you reach the age of 18. :)
You are a minor and minors arent allowed to engage in contracts such as those demanded by businesses. Your parents can act as your guardian and will hold your money and act on your behalf until you reach 18.
The only way you can engage into this business legally and on your own is if you are emancipated.

Many people and companies may simply not want to get involved with people your age because 1) being a minor, you need permission, unless you are emancipated, and 2) they may associate being very young with possibly being unreliable. Naturally, your parents may be reluctant to give you any permission or do things for you because they could be held responsible for your actions. And where would you get the money to start the business anyway?

That being said, if you have a very serious plan and parents who are comfortable with the idea of starting a business rather than getting a job, you may be able to convince your parents to help you out. But think very carefully of how to overcome their objections, such as that they can't afford to pay if you get in trouble. In fact, think about whether this is a good idea in the first place. But if you are serious about it and it's just a matter of age, it may not seem that way now, but four years can pass pretty quickly. Besides, you can spend that time saving money from whatever job or business you are allowed to have. Because even if you can't try this business, your parents may allow you to get a job at some point.
