Do I need to report to the gov't about an online business?

I'm trying to start an online business which sells clothing. Is it necessary for me to file this to the gov't for taxes (or the like)? I have no idea how to begin.

Yes, definitely. Depending on the state you operate in, it may be necessary to also collect sales tax on in-state purchases.

I would seriously advising seeing an accountant if you expect to generate any significant amount of $$$ on this, as it will save you lots of headaches later.

If it's more of a hobby thing at first, I would just roll with it for now, and if/when it gets big--and if makes sense to get an accountant, do so.
