What would I have to do to have an online/e-commerce business?

To have your website look appealing and professional, you need to get web space and a domain name. Yahoo! has a great small business package. They also have very easy site building tools. You need to get a merchant account. This will allow you to accept credit cards on your site. If you have decent credit, try major financial institutions. If you have poor credit, get a pay pal merchant account.
You need to go to your town hall, and register your trade name. Then go to your state or province's web site and figure out what type of sales tax you will need to pay. Fill out the forms, and get a tax ID number.
E-stores made from drop-shipped merchandise can be a great way to get into business. It is inexpensive startup, and will help you get necessary experience.
