Do Online Business have to pay taxes? License?

I am opening up my own tiara/crown pageant store on the internet only. I am the only person working for my business. I was wondering do I have to pay taxes? Even if I do not charge tax? I live in Missouri.. How do you go about getting a tax id number? Do you have to have any more licenses for an online business?
THANKS!:)

Brittney,

All of those questions are very valid. You will have to pay corporate/LLC taxes every year. In order to get a tax ID number you must incorporate your business (which will cover your license for your business as well), there are many ways to do it but our company works closely with a great company that has low prices on their incorporation fees. You can reach me at sales@firstbankcardprocessing.com for more information. We are out of Chicago, IL and we are a credit card processing company, we can help you out with accepting credit cards online as well so you can get your business up and running and accepting online payments.

The laws for every state are different, and sometimes cities and counties within the state will have additional rules. Check with your state website for small business information. The fact that you are online makes no difference. A business is a business.

Your state and county will tell you what licenses you need but YES you do have to collect and pay taxes based on where you ship your products to. You will have to pay income tax on income but you get tax credits (see accountant) for so many expenses... why pay them out of pocket??? Those deductions will lower your taxable income and therefore reduce your tax bracket. An accountant, tax deductible expense, can help you. You will WANT to pay and collect taxes to have a legal business and doing so will pay you in so many ways. You can look into a self employment retirement fund to further lower taxes. You can look into hiring family members to help you with the business. Your Tax ID and business license will be through the IRS and county (respectively). Your local library might have publications on how to start a business in your county. If they don't keep a journal of your experiences in start up and then market the checklist yourself to help others.

Any person who has income over a certain amount is obligated to pay local, state and federal taxes.
As for taxes, you need to check with your local entities, you may be obligated to collect them.
As for permits and licenses you again need to check with your locality ( county on this ).
I make a lot of purchases on the net and notice that when I purchase from one in my state ( Ohio ) that they charge state tax to an Ohio address. As a business in Ohio you are obligated to collect as an agent for the state and then repay to the state. Failure to do so can easily wipe out a business in fines and fees.
You need to research the specifics in Missouri so you are ok.
Good luck in your new business.
