Official business name for an online business...? |
I am starting an online business and am wondering how to choose my official LLC business name. Say my website is called MyBusinessName.com, should my official business name be: It really doesn't matter. It can be any one you want in reality. Your State may have some guidance regarding .com names and how to use them. The issue becomes one of service mark or trademark protection. When you register your business name with your State trademark office (after your business license with the name you choose) then you will want to choose the one you want to use in the regular course of business and variations on it. You can also register with the State multiple variations of the name to be protected. You should not register with the Federal government unless you plan on becoming a megalopolis type business. I'd wait until you are a few years down the road to register the Federal portion. Legally it makes absolutely no difference whatsoever. Your official business name does not need to be similar to your domain name unless you just like the way it looks and sounds (and if it is available ... need to check with your state's Secretary of State) No, think of something esay to remember...best something that sounds short. no 1 but cut down the word business maybe mybizname, LLC. |
