Can I make a withdrawal from my retirement plan? |
I have a pre-tax pension with my employer and I need to know if I can make a withdrawal from it. I can't get a loan and my wife needs a surgery that isn't covered by our insurance. I also have a 457 deferred plan and a state firefighter pension...Can I withdraw funds from either of these? i know some people have, i tried, but they won麓t let me :( all you can do is ask, the worst they can say is no Yes, but with substantial penalties tax penalties about 30%. Let your employer know that you'd like to withdraw for a "hardship". You need to ask the funds admin. Odds are you can but you will have to pay taxes on it as income and your retirement will be reduced. You can, but you'll have to pay interest on it. It's always a good idea not to touch your retirement plan until you reach the age limit, but if you have no choice you should go for it. Probably yes. 401k plans allow you to withdraw funds, but if you do not pay it back within a period of time, you pay a high penalty. It is 20% plus the added income tax. You cannot withdraw from your pre-tax pension, your State Fire Fighter Pension or 457 deferred plan. But you can get loan from Bank by pledging any of the pension or the 457 deferred plan. Contact Bank authorities with your Pension Books and copy of 457 deferred plan. Some 401K programs will allow you to take a withdrawal out on for medical bills, college, and home down payments. YOu will pay the aproximately 30% taxes on it though. |
