As an investment, would buying acreage somewhere be a dumb idea?

Im only 19 so dont know much about the subject. I recently came into around $6,000 and i realize that wont buy much, maybe an acre or two. I want to know if i bought whatever i could, would it be profitable in the future after paying taxes and everything on it over the years?

that would really depend on the location of the grounds.

Yes I think it is a great ideal to buy property. Property is the best way to go and even buying a house is good to. The reason is the price of land is some what low and you will have it when you finally get married and have kid to give it to in the future. This lady that I know she owns a lot of property and houses and she is doing a really good job. She rents a lot of her houses out and does very good at it. Go for it and invest in something that will be worth it in the long run.

Were I in your situation I would put the money into mutual funds. Over the long term land and housing are commodities. Commodities return the rate of inflation over the long term. If you are looking for a store of your money buy land, if you want your money to work for you, buy a mutual fund. Dodge and Cox International would be a good place to start.
