How much cash infusion has eBay required from inception all the way to large-scale & profitable?

What I am trying to determine is the total investment that has been required, not just the $7.5m eBay has received pre-IPO. In other words, how much would it cost to build eBay (if eBay didn't exist already) ...

That's difficult to answer because eBay is funding growth from the results of operations.

The amount of Invested Capital that eBay has today is about $5B. Total assets - cash - non-interest bearing current liabilities.

The Invested Capital calculation includes cash that was plowed back into the business to purchase assets.

Alternatively, you could add up all the Cash Flow from Financing activities going back to 1996 and determine that eBay has raised $2.8B from the issuance of stock and other financing activities.

Hope that provides some help.
