Where can I find grant funding to teach stained Glass for disadvantaged & people exculed from society?

I have set up workshop in Norfolk to do my own Studio Glass. However I have plenty of space and would like to start running courses for disadvantage people and people who have been excluded from society. I have seen the amazing effect stained glass can have on this sector of people.Learners do not have to be amazing artists to creatate amazing work. Working with and surrounded by coulor has it's postives, but harness this with learning a practical skill it provides the learners the perfect platform to rebuild confidence, pride, purpose and self worth, all things many people lose when isolated. I am looking for grant aid to help surport the setting up and running of these course. Some specailist equipment may also need to be sourced to make this course available to all ie. Speacilist benches and tools for people in wheel chairs. If anybody has any information that they feel would be helpful please contact me with any details you have. You could be the person to help this happen. Thanks

The Nationa Arts Institute has a grant program. So does the Foundation for the Performing Arts, I know stained glass is not a performing art but they have a unit that deals with art in general. Also, may try the School of Fine Arts in New York City. The Nation Arts Foundation too.

Hope that helps.

How about the national lottery? You could also contact your local BBC radio station. They may have an Action Desk that can give you advice.

check on web under cashgrants.gov.

It all depends on where you are from. First try your local government to see if they are offering any grants for your project. Then try your federal government. You can also try local supplies stores to see if they are willing to donate supplies. If you know of any major corporations within your country, try them also. You can also try major corporations out side your country that fund national projects. I am a grant writer in the US and I research grants all the time. One of my best search engine for grants is: http://www.grantsalert.com/. It is a US Site but most of the corporations on this site fund programs in other countries. You might want to search the web and look up RFP (request for proposals) in your home country. This should give you lots of options. Good Luck. It is always harder to find funding for specific than if it was broader.

Your best bet is to seek for private grants or grants from private foundations.

The best resource for this is Foundation Center http://www.fdncenter.org . They have a very good database covering all organizations giving grants and you can find foundations that are interested in supporting your type of cause. However, it's a subscription based website ($19.95 per month I think is the cheapest subscription price). But it certainly is worth the fee. You can subscribe one month, and make sure you get all the info you need and then stop the subscription.

If you want to try federal sources, you can go to the Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance (CFDA) http://www.cfda.gov and Grants.gov http://www.grants.gov - these are two sites created by the federal government to provide transparency and information on grants.
