I'm looking for stocks which should do well over the next 5 to 10 years.
I've always liked Merck. Is that a good choice in the pharmaceutical sector?
Are there other sectors and stocks to consider? MRK is an excellent choice for a long term investment. Very solid financials, industry leader, and not overpriced at the moment (investing isn't only about finding good companies, but finding the right time to invest in them).
These kinds of blue chip stocks are great, but you should also allocate some of your funds for higher growth potential stocks, as well. This could include small and mid-cap stocks with bright futures, speculative stocks, and even contrarian stocks (big companies who have been through hard times recently but still are financial sound and likely to make a comeback). Buy and hold stock is questionable unless you happen to find a company like Polaroid, 3M , Xerox, that has a winning product and runs way up.
Even Dow does not hold the same companies. Of the original 30 companies none are on the list now. Except ?GE and it was off for a time. In order to keep their records looking good, most 'funds' are changing their portfolio all the time.
Otherwise, if you own a good solid company, AAA rated that pays dividends, you can 'rent' the stock out and make a better rate of return. You sell Call Options against the stock and collect the premiums. Paper trade to see how it is done b4 you put you hard earned money into it. Yes.
Cancer is currently the third cause of deaths in the World.
Everybody wants to live a little longer.
Merck has a vaccine for Cervical Cancer for women from 9 to 26 years old.
Cervical Cancer is the seventh cause of cancer deaths for women in the World.
This vaccine (Gardasil) is currently on sale and it is likely every parent will buy one for their daughters in the future.
