Are there spammers in Investments? |
I've noticed that there are two different uses who repeatedly recommend DRIPs and suggest the following link. I can't recall the exact name, but I think it is called "Pump and dump" There are crooks who buy large amounts of one particular low-priced stock, then spam millions of people, telling them that it is a hot item and to buy now. not spammers. you mean scammers. and yes. As adults one is responsible for doing their own due diligence with any type of investment even depositing funds with a bank there is risk no matter how remote as there will always come a day of reckoning when the party is over as was found out by the former communist Soviet Union citizens when the money became worthless. Most people in the stock market are only gambling as they do not know what they are doing unless they put their trust with professionals some of which are found out in time not to be so not matter how much education. Profits are made by a minority off the majority. One invests at their own risk and peril. Yes, there are con men out there. I regularly get e-mails telling me that I should invest in some penny stock that will make me a fortune because they have the mining rights to the moon or something. And I look at the chart and see a big spike in price and volume that only lasts for a day or so. Pump and Dump, as another poster said, is the term. Spammers and scammers are ALWAYS 'prowling', so if you have concerns (and you are not the only one!), report it / them! |
