What is the best Trust Fund to investment my baby's 拢250?

What is the best Trust Fund to investment my baby's 拢250?

Don't be sucked into a lot of advertising. I wouldn't issue it with any major bank, especially Lloyd's as it has had the worst performance. Other major banks haven't been outstanding either. I think I'll either be putting mine into F&C, Family Investments, or the Childrens Mutual.

Take a look at this:

http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/investing/a...

It shows some of the performance levels of the past 18 years. Remember that you can close the account or transfer your childs trust fund if you're not happy, but it may be a complicated and costly process as you'd have to sell all the stocks and shares and reinvest.

Also I intend to be investing mine ethically, so that the money we save isn't put into logging, animal testing, cigarrettes, or anything like that. Things like that have made all the difference in what company we chose.

Asda because you get 拢25 voucher to spend there

I'm also looking into this at the moment, from what I can see so long as it is with a major institution there is no real difference. One might be better in one way but another better in another. It is important to realise that most pros/cons will cancel each other out over the 18 years you have it. I'm going to use the same bank that I have my current account with just to keep it all in one place.

I would put it into an ISA for them....Barclays Bank has the best ISA at the moment in excess of 6% interest. A good long term investment.

It completly depends on things like whether you are going to add money to it. I am currently deciding where to put my babys voucher and have decided on getting him a seperate savings account also as the governments one is made avaliable at 18 - i know what i would have done with that money at the age of 18!

Hi, I spent a long time doing research into this for my little boy and I discovered that virtually ALL the investment oppurtunities at all the mojor banks had a risk element to it- including Barclays. What I mean by this, is that it is floated on the stock market and there is a chance that when your baby reaches 18 he may have LESS than what was actually paid into it!

Depending on how much you wish to pay into the account yourself, or whether you only want to put in the 拢250, you need to find out what the paying in limit is (ISA's are normally 拢3000 a year), whether they will be tax free, whether they are a shareholder account (which means it is on the stock market) or if they will only take the initial 拢250 and not allow to pay in any additional funds (all the high street banks are shareholder accounts and will only accept the 拢250 and no addictional monies).

In the end I chose Leeds building society for my sons account. Their investment options let me pay in upto 拢1200 every year, is tax free, locks the account until my son is 18, and is not a shareholder account so he will get whatever I pay into his account plus interest. This is what I found was best for me.
