How to find "n" (term) and "i" (interest rate) for present value?

I'm doing this math course through the Adult Learning Centre and it doesn't tell me how to find the term and the interest rate.

The questions I'm having problems with are:
1. An investment of $3500 grew to $6060 at an interest rate of 8%.What was the term, if the compounding was semi-annual?

2. Determine the value of i, to four decimal places if necessary, for 1989.97=750(1+i)^20.

I would really appreciate if someone could help me.

The term on the first one is 3.6 years.

And the value of i is about 4.98 percent.

Use logs to figure it out.
