Own A Fund Of Funds, Or Just Buy The Funds Themselves? |
Should I buy the fund VTIVX, or should I just buy the 6 funds / ETFS that VTIVX holds in the same proportion? I am not particularly excited about the allocation of VTIVX, so I would rather pick and choose my own allocation. That fund is way over allocated to U S stocks. Actually, the Vanguard fund that makes the most sense is VHGEX, maybe 50% that and 40% Bonds. If you want the target fund's shifting allocation, buy the target fund. Vanguard doesn't put any added expense on the target date fund of funds. |
