I have several IRA CD's earning 3%. Is the Vanguard 500 index fund next safest step up if I retire in ten yrs. I agree: look at the target date funds or "Life Strategy" funds. At the "10-year point," you need some bond (and international stock) exposure that you won't get with the S&P index fund. I think the 500 is very volatile. Research the Vanguard Target retirement funds, you get a little bit of everything, instead of just large growth. This is kind of a invest and forget, If that's what you want. One good thing about Vanguard, you can dollar cost average, in or out, within a retirement account without added cost. It depends on what percentage this cd is of your total retirement savings. If you are on target to reach your goal of retirement. Your personal risk tolerance. |
