How do you ptich an idea to a venture capitalist? should i be worried about them stealing my idea?

i have an idea (machine) that would require a lot of money. how do i make it come to fruition? i do not think it is patentable. what is the first step i need to take? prototype? anything legal i need to know? thanks

Before you go for any investment, including prototype, answer the following questions:
1. what is the target market? (e.g. Man, 18-40, US)
2. Can this target market afford what you want to sell them?
3. What is the pain this machine will solve?
4. Full description of the machine and accessories if needed
5. distribution ideas
6. Competition
7. risks

With this, you can start creating a business plan. Make it short and to the point and make sure it answers all the above, plus investment and revenue plan. Build a prototype and make sure it looks good.

VCs will look for all of the above, but moreover, for you (or your team) and try to estimate if you have the right drive to make it happen. It may be a good idea to team with an experienced business people on this

Google 'Patent Office' Lots of great insight.

Ask them to sign an NDA.

Michael

Prototype and a very well thought out business plan. How much would it be to produce your item? Who is the target market? How will you reach that market? Is there anything else similar to it on the market? Those are the kinds of questions an investor would want to know.
