In finance, what is a venture capitalist, please ?

It is someone who has a lot of capital (money), that invests some of that money into a venture (business), in hopes of earning much more capital(money as interest) from that investment.
The same could be said for any investor, but a venture capitalist invests ALOT of money.

A person that makes money by investing their money into businesses - mainly startup businesses.

Somebody that invests capital in growing companies in hopes of striking it big.

Basically, someone who discovers a new business opportunity and finances its development in order to reap the financial rewards.

Got a crazy idea that may make or lose a fortune, but will
show results in a very short time??

A VENTURE CAPITALIST will invest / loan you
money (tons of) to this end.

A venture capitalist invests in start up companies. A venture capitalist will frequently pool his $$$ with others ( spreading the risk) to support a new company or research idea. The reason they are willing to take the risk is because of the potential reward down the line. I prefer to call them "adventure" capitalists.... success can be thrilling.

Here is a website of one rather successful VC:
